Apollo 12 astronauts near halfway to the moon

SPACE CENTER Houston AP The Apollo 12 crew glided past the halfway point en route to the Ocean of Storms on a night schedule to prep for next week's lunar venture. At 4740 pm EST Charles Conrad Jr Richard Gordon Jr and Alan L Bean were precisely 128233 miles from Earth aboard the Moon bound spacecraft. Live color TV transmissions were sent to Earth as two critical rocket firings loomed.

Administration pushes faster desegregation plan

Washington AP The Wixnil Administration announced new steps to speed desegregation. Health, Education and Welfare Secretary Robert H. Finch said the action could trigger further federal fund cutoffs and targets hundreds of districts to desegregate. Some districts must desegregate by September 1970 with interim steps in 1969-70, developed in coordination with the Justice Department.
