The U S Air Force recovered the Discoverer XVII spy satellite capsule in the Pacific a second time. Capt Gene W Jones and a nine man Pelican II crew captured the 300 pound capsule 500 miles northeast of Honolulu after a 21 minute flight from orbit. The capsule weighed about 125 pounds on recovery and was slightly scorched on re entry.
