The son of a minister and a hot rod enthusiast were jailed for a farmers bank robbery in Elida Ohio on October 17. James C Breese 27 father of four and longtime clerk of the Allen County Common Pleas Court. and William D Metzger the third man. Rigel had prior car theft and bad check charges and was freed on bond in Tennessee and placed on probation in Lima after a worthless check case.
Columbus report states state auditor Joseph T. Ferguson on Thursday allocated 1,414,800 from the gasoline excise tax fund to counties and townships. Each of the 88 counties received 10,000 and each of the 1,337 townships received 400.

Senator Taft in a new book argues the United States may be asked to deploy far more divisions than six to defend Western Europe under NATO. He criticizes Truman era policy and Roosevelt, while Senator McMahon counters as blind to current problems and praises policy that checked Soviet expansion. Taft urges continued economic and military aid to multiple nations.

Rescue crews found the wreckage of a U S Air Force transport plane high on a southern France mountain. Unofficial reports say Frank B. Lieving of Ohio River Road will resign from the six year Mason County Court this Saturday. Bellevue civil service board postponed until Monday its review of Police Chief John E. Baker who was removed Oct. 15 for alleged misuse of a police car releasing a drunken driver, intoxication, and taking obscene pictures of a Negro woman in city jail. Patrolman Arnold Zerman testified he saw the photos in a jail cell and later was shown them again, though he did not report or see the woman afterward.
