Morning hour fades for Ewina and Grosvenor ties
From The Messenger November 15 1877 notes Tom Ewina’s fading fame in the morning hour and questions about Hayes veto of the Silver bill. It reports Morton’s will to his wife and the death of Nathaniel Brunson along with ministerial postings for Cassius Goodloe. It cites Grosvenor’s long political career, Ingersoll’s possible lecture invitation denial, and a proposed minstrel show to compensate a Marietta reunion. Details on coal shipments and Turkish war progress are included.
Democratic victory sparks Republican doubts in Pennsylvania
The piece argues that Pennsylvania and Ohio show stiff Republican majorities despite anti Republican trends. It discusses the Prohibition vote in Rome township, a railroad owner’s prosperity, a new United States Hotel reading room, a Presbyterian Society supper, a marriage in Westerville Jerseyville, and a church dedication in Rome township. The tone cites local editors and community events with named people and places throughout.

Correction of misstatements about Mr Jacob Nice incident
The article corrects earlier reports from the Messenger of September twenty about a difficulty involving Mr. Jacob Nice of Big Run on a Marietta return excursion. It states Nice was not intoxicated, did not leave the train before home, and that provocation caused the disturbance. It notes the matter is slated for a Common Pleas hearing in Washington county and lists local Masonic officers elected November 9 1877 and other town items including specimens of petrified vegetables, cabbage curiosities, hymn program, court docket, hog health, John Thompson moving to Oxford, subscription renewals, and notices from Col. ER A Constable and Athens Commandery officers election.
