Eight theological students from Union Theological Seminary were sentenced in federal court to a year and one day in prison for refusing to register under the selective service act. Judge Mandelbaum allowed a maximum five year term and $10,000 fine, with possible moderated sentences if needed. Meredith Dallas, 23, of Grosse Point, Michigan was among the defendants.
Adjutant General Gilson D. Light announced the Ohio State Guard would grow from 3000 to 4000 enlisted men. The unit would include four infantry regiments a medical battalion and a quartermaster battalion with about 300 officers. Ages 18 to 45.

James D. Foster, 78, former Athens resident and member of a longtime Athens County family, died suddenly of a heart ailment in Tuscaloosa Alabama where he had lived 40 years and run an undertaking business retired two years ago. He married Mary Fletcher of Albany and is survived by his wife a daughter a Greensboro Alabama three grandchildren siblings and several other relatives. Funeral services were held in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral at Amesville Presbyterian Church Saturday at 2 PM with burial in Amesville Cemetery. Friends may call at the home before the service.
William Mack, 24, fell about 25 feet while trimming a tree at W. F. Rizer residence Culver Street. He sustained a brain concussion severe lacerations and bruises and was unconscious for hours. Condition improved the next day.
