Clyde Gibson, noted athlete and World War I veteran, selected as chief deputy by Amesville businessman F. W. Ames. Gibson has strong Democratic ties, taught at Mase Military Academy, captained local teams, and served in Canada and the Indian overseas forces before returning to Amesville.
Columbus dispatch reports Captain George Bennet, wounded guard, is charged with full responsibility after officers chase and overtake a car carrying six occupants at high speed. The incident occurred as authorities pursued the fleeing vehicle, details incomplete.
Oliver Glaspy, an Athens county convict who escaped from the Ohio penitentiary, was sentenced on an incest charge February 9, 1912. NEW LEXINGTON, Nov. A daring jail delivery headed by Earl Brooks of Basil was frustrated by Sheriff Harley McNabb who found bars of several cells partly sawed. Five saws were found in Brooks' cell and his cell was sawed in places. Brooks claimed help from Columbus supplied the saws. He was the ring leader in a sensational escape three months ago aided by a 14 year old girl. Brooks is held for criminal assault.
London reports nearly a third of Britain’s one million miners returned to work as domestic coal prices were cut by 6 to 18 cents per hundredweight. Government talks at Downing Street continued with both miners and coal owners providing views on a settlement after six months of idleness.
