Former Governor Myers Y. Cooper spoke at Nelsonville on state and national issues. He praised Hoover for economic stabilization and refuted White administration deficits, urging against changing leadership amid rising employment and economic improvement.
The Bartell Franz confectionery at Main and Converse Streets Chauncey burned in a morning fire just after 4 o'clock. The two story frame building stood near the Wilson Building site and was owned by H Hoodlet of Nelsonville. A melted telephone cable fronting the shop interrupted service for hours.
Racine fire destroyed the two story frame residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Beegle at 3 this morning while they were away in Huntington. Cause believed to be a short circuit. Neighbors saved a few furnishings. Loss estimated at 3000 dollars with partial insurance.
Police hunted three gunmen who shot and killed Matthias Schaser a 40 year old confectionery shop owner on the west side. He was found lying on the sidewalk outside his store.
Athens Chamber of Commerce committee spent three hours with county commissioners reviewing the 1933 budget. The group found the commissioners opposed to new bond issues, noting 83,000 in annual payments due from old bonds and a 80,502 levy to sustain road work. County officials expect reduced levies next year and highlight savings from court fees and salary cuts for elected officials. Commissioners are John Grosvenor, L. H. Blackwood, Frank Biddle. clerk Mrs Maude Lowry.
Paris reports a French disarmament plan envisions a single military dictator or international commander for League forces. The plan proposes two European armys a short term conscript national force and a small professional group trained by the League. Germany may keep a larger conscript force while losing its professional army, with France retaining colonial volunteers.
President Hoover moved west for a final nationwide campaign swing. Governor Roosevelt prepared speeches for the New York metropolitan area while Alfred E. Smith paraded support at Troy, praising Roosevelt and Garner and labeling Hoover the party leader.
Frances King, a former employee at a New York advertising firm, sues Bruce Barton for 250000 dollars claiming defamation and alienation of affections actions mediated by her husband Hugh Rodgers King. She alleges Barton discredited her with prospective employers and accused her of involvement in a "badger game."
The Ohio Public Utilities Commission rejected the Dayton Power and Light Company s proposed gas rate increases for natural gas service in Piqua Troy Sidney Washington D C Tippecanoe City North Hampton and South Charleston, using a gate rate formula from the Columbus gas case.
R C Hess of the Athens Welfare Association announced that Bobo will chair the Athens Community Chest campaign this year. The drive runs from Tuesday November 15 for one week and Bobo will reveal campaign details soon.

Judge Guy B Park is nominated by Missouri Democrats to run for governor. He was chosen by the state committee to fill the vacancy on the party ballot caused by Francie M Wileon’s death. Park resides in Miatte City.

In Columbus on November 3 4 U P communists led by John Marshall of Leetonia staged a orderly protest at the Ohio State House presenting a petition for immediate relief for the unemployed. Governor White was away in Marietta during the protest.
Charles Robb aged 16 died late at night at the home of his nephew Benjamin Tippie in Pearh Ridge. Funeral services are set for 1 pm Saturday at Sugar Creek Church with burial in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call at Tippie home.
New Jersey police showed 15 suspects in a lineup as Arthur Barry faced more questioning over the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. Dr. John F. Condon did not identify any man as the supposed ransom receiver despite the effort and the nickname Jafsie.

The State Department announced ratification of the United States Greek Extradition Treaty signed May 6 1931. The move puts the pact in effect and presumably enables the extradition of Samuel Insull Sr a Chicago utilities magnate from Athens to the United States.
Ohio banks restart operations this year under state plans, with five venues set to reopen soon and negotiations under way for Toledo’s Ohio Savings Bank and Trust. Superintendent Ira Fulton says the move will release millions of dollars into commerce as economic conditions improve since 1991 bank closings.
The Ohio Supreme Court will hear the state health department versus the city of Van Wert over a state board power to order sewage work. The Ohio Public Health Council seeks to enforce a sewage plant order, with financing implications if the 15 mill limit is not bypassed.
Death closed the search for John Curtes 41 who shot and critically wounded his estranged wife Rose 64 as she left home for work. Curtes body was found in a field near Lorain Airport with a bullet wound in his head after he fired four shots at his former wife who had been divorced a year ago.

Mayor Addison Thatcher of Toledo requested an $8,000,000 self liquidating loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to build a municipal waterworks on Lake Erie. He planned to seek an additional $180,000 relief loan to aid Toledo citizens this month.

Chicago November 3 Wheat prices fell to a world record low of 42 1/2 cents a bushel and corn slipped to 23 1/2 cents, the lowest since 1896, in December futures at the opening. Seasonal lows followed for May wheat at 47 1/2 cents and July wheat at 49 1/2 cents.
