Trustees accept a $246,890 bid for the Helen Galbreath Memorial Chapel on Ohio University’s campus. John W. Galbreath of Columbus funds the project in memory of his wife, who died in 1946. The chapel will sit between Memorial Auditorium and Ellis Hall, near the campus center.

Morton Dickey was sworn in as Gallia County auditor after the resignation of Charles W. Bodimer. The board of county commissioners held an emergency session and unanimously selected Dickey, who began duties with bond set, as Bodimer’s resignation took effect. Bodimer resigned Wednesday. Pope Pius VII issues an encyclical calling prayers for Holy Land and Middle East.
Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver toured Ohio for a last campaign push with Stevenson slated to speak at Public Square Cleveland after a motorcade. Kefauver planned a Youngstown television rally while Stevenson planned Akron appearance after election eve telecast. Democratic contenders campaigned in Cleveland and Dayton as Republican George H. Bender urged Israel policy in Dayton and Ohio opponents pressed to unseat Lausche with DiSalle.
