Athens club seeks new site for large concert venue
Brister said after meeting with the Athens code office that 9 West Athens needs more parking for the planned venue. Obstructions and roof limits rule out the Stimson Avenue site, prompting a search for East State Street or West Union Street locations adaptable to concerts and daytime workshops. The project aims to be the largest non University venue in Athens with future food and bar possibilities and a training center component.

Budget deficits loom as district plans levy renewals
The district projects a deficit exceeding 400000 in 2014 and a slightly higher shortfall in 2015, with debt to surpass 7 million by 2019. Since 2009 the funding system has changed four times, and a fifth shift may occur after next month’s state budget finalization. Levy mechanics cap revenue to the original estimate plus new construction, while income tax revenues rose from about 3.2 million in 2010 to 3.7 million in 2015, offset by losses in state funding and higher costs for salaries and benefits.
