Rural Phone Rates Rise 7 Percent for Farmers
Washington report from the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Agricultural Economics shows farmers paid an average 7 percent more for local telephone service in 1952, totaling about 4.62 annually with 3.06 for local and 1.56 for long distance. The survey drew responses from over 21,009 farmers nationwide and compares to 1951 figures.

Drenching Ewes Can Boost Safe Value of Lambs
County agent Charles Sam says drenching ewes before turning out to pasture raises lambs value by about 1.50 per hundredweight. Ewes carrying stomach and nodular worms can contaminate pasture with worm eggs. lambs may reach market four to six weeks late. Phenothiazine is recommended for drenching, with two ouates per ewe.

Reymann Memorial Ayrshire Herd Tops National Ranking
The Reymann Memorial Ayrshire Dairy Herd at West Virginia University earned top recognition from the National Ayrshire Breeders Association. Judge William Watson rated the herd with an average score of 8.55 placing it in the top ten percent of registered Ayrshire herds in the United States. The 55 milking-age cows include seven rated 90 or above, twenty-two rated 85 to 90, and 23 rated 80 to 83. The herd is one of 16 classified Ayrshire herds in West Virginia.
