Virgil Martin Speaks at Memorial Day Program in Middleport

A Memorial Day gathering at Beech Grove Cemetery in Pomeroy featured Virgil Martin of the Ohio Insurance Bureau as speaker. The event included a parade from the Legion Hall with local veterans, firemen, Scouts, and a flag ceremony. Martin contrasted American living standards with European dictatorships and praised the American Legion role in shaping values for future generations. The ceremony ended with taps, while noting the absence of Civil War veterans and Gold Star Mothers. Fossils and bone preservation contrasted with a final, unrelated note on prehistoric remains and petrified bone.
