Pirates stop Spartans in regional final thriller
The Wheelersburg Pirates defeated the Alexander Spartans 5-3 to win the Division III, Region 11 final at Paint Stadium. Wheelersburg advances to the state tournament for the sixth straight year, while Alexander ends 25-5, a program single season wins record. Wade Martin shined with six shutout innings and 12 strikeouts, while Alexander ace Zac Smith pitched seven innings in Thursday’s semi, with Zach Russell earning the regional final win for Wheelersburg.
