Eastern Ohio Coal Operators Win Rate Battle to Lake

The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that railroad rates from Ohio Pennsylvania and West Virginia lines to Lower Lake Erie ports for trans lake coal shipments are unreasonable. Ten New Formulae For Denaturants of Alcohol

Washington May 28 Ten new formulae for denaturing industrial alcohol to make it bootlegger proof are being developed by prohibition chemists led by chief chemist J Linder. The alcohol is rendered unfit for beverage use but must continually evolve to thwart illicit separation by bootleggers. Linder notes the formulas are non poisonous yet a large quantity can be deadly.

Matthew Davis and Mrs Martha Davis Mason born Nelsonville May 29 1835 are reunited in Hollister after years apart. Martha moved to Marion Indiana over two decades ago and Matthew a miner in Hollister for 37 years. Melodramatic recovery of body from octopus trap in Port Townsend

Deep sea diver A E Hook delivered the body of H Healy to the coroner ten days after Healy was recovered from the tentacles of a devil fish off Middle Point. Hook described slashing the octopus to free the body, then rising to the surface. Healy was among five men missing after a tug boat was swamped near Port Townsend last Tuesday.

Six Miners Die In Blast At Delagua Coal Mine

May 24. Six miners were killed and another injured when a blast trapped 162 men for over two hours at the Delagua Coal Mine, Victor American Fuel, 21 miles from Aguilar. Dan Woods, a 40 year old miner, is credited with saving many lives by guiding survivors to a north slope exit despite dense smoke and debris. Private Is Burned To Death In Bombing Plane Crash

In Reynoldsburg May 25 Private Yeager died when a bombing plane returning to Langley Field Va from Kelly Field Tex crashed near Reynoldsburg. Lieut Bridget of Fairfield O was seriously injured. propeller blade struck him. Major L H Brereton Staff Sgt J B Miller and MSgt N Taylor were slightly hurt. The crew parachuted to safety after the propeller split during flight from Norton Ohio where they were delayed by motor trouble.
