Athens City Schools cut costs at the top and beyond
Athens City School Board approved seven administrative contracts and eliminated one position to save about 175000 for the next fiscal year. The associate superintendent post held by Carl Martin was removed, cutting about 160000 annually from salary and benefits. Martin retired after an inquiry into a teacher student relationship. no wrongdoing by Martin was found. The district hires two school psychologists, Alexandra Pavlik and Chelsa Porter, on two year contracts, about 5000 in salary savings expected, with additional benefits savings possible. About 8000 more in savings from retiring the district special education director. Additional administrative renewals and various teacher contracts were approved.
