Local visits and road talk from Athens area

Forei man Broadwell George Sedwick and family of Utley were guests of relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson of New York are visiting Mrs. Jackson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Sed wick. Gard Johnson of Pittsburg, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Sarah Johnston. Mrs. Luetta Crouch of Wells ville, W.Va., was called to the bed side of her sister, Miss Bertha Lewis, who is seriously ill at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jean Harrison were business visitors at Athens last week. We noticed in Monday's Messenger our item in regard to the improvement in the Baker Settlement road and that it made a nice loop through to Fisher past the Country Club for auto riders. Very good but, Mr. Business Man of Athens, did you ever consider from a financial standpoint how much it would help your business and the city of Athens in general if you would pull a little for improvements on some of Athens County's despised township roads so the common people could get to town when they had time to go? The Messenger did not intend to give the idea that the new road thru the Baker Settlement was intended for auto pleasure riders alone. The improved road there means an outlet for a considerable farming district in winter. The "auto ride" end of it was only incidental mentioned as the writer knew the farmers' need was first.
