President Alden To Address AHS Seniors
The 104th Athens High School commencement will be held at 8 p m Friday June 7 in the AHS auditorium with President Vernon R Alden of Ohio University as principal speaker. 117 seniors will receive diplomas including Richard Byron Abel and many others listed.

The Rev John Wesley Seay pastor of the First Methodist Church will give the baccalaureate sermon at Athens High School at 8 p m Sunday June 2 in the school auditorium The program opens with pianists Jan McMullen and Suzanne Drach The Senior Mixed Chorus will sing the anthem and Bev Bowen and Ted Stiff will read Scripture and prayer The Senior Girls Chorus directed by Mrs Sue Sheeder will perform Agnus Dei and Can dace Mathews will lead the benediction followed by the chorus response and a recessional by the senior class.

Darrell Napoleon Fierce 50 of Glouster Route 3 faced a continued sanity hearing after the only witness failed to appear. Lima psychiatrist Dr. G N Wilson said he had not received a subpoena copy. The hearing was delayed until a later date amid an ongoing first degree murder case related to his brother's February tavern slaying.

Four Youths Fined For Balloon Toss Case in Municipal Court
Four youths pleaded guilty to tossing a water balloon from a moving auto on Route 682. Driver James Sweeney and three companions were placed on 30 days probation with fines of 100 dollars and costs, 50 dollars suspended, and damages to be paid. A separate incident sees police questioning two Ohio University students over an attempted shop lifting at Belk-Simpson Department Store with jackets hidden on one youth.
