Ancient Well Found in Hoaglin Township Suggests Pre-Columbian Civilization

In Hoaglin township workers uncovered a well believed to be five centuries old in a mill-race excavation led by Adly Calhoun. An oak tree was removed and a brick-lined shaft, about fifteen by eight inches and seven and a half inches thick, filled the rest of the entry. The find hints at a long vanished advanced civilization prior to Columbus. A separate item notes Drexel Mongan & Co offering six percent loans to fund army pay from July 1 until a formal appropriation.
