American Aircraft Losses in Vietnam Reach 5388

U S Command reports 42 more American aircraft and helicopters lost in the past week raising total to 5388 since the start of the war. Week's losses include 27 fixed wing and 15 helicopters with two million dollar F4 Phantom and KC130 tanker among the casualties.

Ground Crewman Steals and Flies C130 Hercules from London

An American Air Force ground crew chief, Sgt Paul A. Meyer of Poquoson Virginia, stole a four engine C130 Hercules from a London area base, taxied onto the field and flew away before dawn. He eluded radar until fuel ran low about noon local time and was later taken into custody after returning to base.

Ohio Senate bills to legalize public employee bargaining

A new Ohio Senate bill by Sen. David S. Holcomb would legalize collective bargaining for all public employees including teachers police and firemen with exemptions on strikes and a repeal of the Ferguson Act. The measure covers county municipal state and school district workers and four co-sponsors push repeal of existing rules.

Apollo 14 crew reports near miss and lunar site checks

Apollo 14 astronauts Thomas Stafford John Young and Eugene Cernan spent eight hours circling the moon photographing potential landing sites and surveying landmarks. They flew within 94 miles of the surface and confirmed the Sea of Tranquility area is suitable though with hazards. The crew prepared for a July 16 lift off and a Pacific splashdown after the upcoming return flight.
