The Vinton Friendship Garden Club announced its Summer Flower Show will be held on Sunday August 11 in the Vinton High School Gymnasium. Eight members and two visitors attended the recent meeting at the Vinton Town Hall. Plans include planting iris at the Town Hall yard this week and later planting flowers in the Vinton Memorial Cemetery pending proper permissions.
Ten members attended the VFW Auxiliary meeting at the new VFW Home on Lower Third Ave. Finals plans were made to send four delegates to the district VFW meeting in Nelsonville on Sunday May 26. Delegates are Molly Johnson Effie Mayes Mayme Gooderham and Elizabeth Daniels. A flower committee was appointed to provide hospital and funeral flowers. Freda Barcus reports the next meeting is June 12.
Forty five persons attended the inspection with six admitted at the meeting. Names include Miss Elaine Walters Mrs Edith Wright Mrs Lillian Martin Mrs Ella Bell McDonald Mrs Margaret Blazer and Mrs William Wright. The hall featured spring flowers as decoration with decorating committee members Mrs Margaret Houston and Mrs Beulah Cremeans and social committee members Mrs Helen Coder Mrs Florence Willis and Mrs Gladys Evans.
Gallipolis post logged no accidents in the 24hour period ending at 3 a.m. Thursday. One conviction was recorded for Herbert Gay Stewart, 29, of Columbus, fined $20 and costs for failing to observe a stop sign in Municipal Court before Judge William H. Janes.
Attendees included visitors from Pomeroy Middleport and Wilkesville. The gathering focused on local issues with emphasis on community involvement and regional cooperation.
A son born to Walter Clay and wife in Gallipolis on May 22 and another to William George and wife in Vinton also May 22. The notes list multiple admissions including Mrs Thomas Matteson in Wellston and several patients for medical and surgical care across Gallipolis Racine Oak Hill and nearby towns.
Gallipolis will host over 200 boys aged nine to 15 in three summer baseball leagues Pee Wee Little Babe Ruth as part of the city recreation program. Uniform distribution at Washington School is slated with Little League at ten AM Babe Ruth at one PM and Pee Wee at three PM.
The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Gallipolis discussed initiating new members and installing officers for 1957 58 during a Wednesday meeting led by President Johnny Johnson. He expects two state officers to attend the June 5 ceremony from the Ironton lodge for local lodge officer installation and new member initiation. Two more applicants were referred to the investigating committee, and both were approved by the membership committee.
