Vikings name new head football coach
Jeffrey Downs was hired Thursday as head coach of the Vinton County Vikings, returning to lead the program for a third time after Shane Wellman’s sudden resignation. Downs, a former coach from 2003 to 2005, led the Vikings to a 17-14 record and a 2004 playoff appearance. He is a social studies teacher at Vinton County High School, and the district also approved five assistant coaches.
