The K T Crossen Post of the American Legion sponsors the event with Ohio University Y W C A members selling on the streets under Miss Martha White and Miss Helen Gerke. R M Sherman handles Legion arrangements. Proceeds aid disabled veterans and their families.
The Supreme Court refused to uphold the Ohio Supreme Court ruling approving Columbus Ohio gas rates of 48 cents per thousand cubic feet. The case against Columbus Gas and Fuel Co. is sent back for further action.

He is the sixth candidate joining Dr. T H Phillips Pearley Gaskill J E Bailey E C Woodworth all of Athens and Clarence Wolfe of New Marshfield. Wooley, a native of Ames Township, is a farmer and salesman. He is married with three daughters Helen Glass Ruth Wooley and Rae Wooley.
Temperatures reach 95 degrees on Sunday as Athens district endures the hottest May on record. Residents use hoses to cope with scorched lawns while farmers report parched land and withering crops. A breeze eases heat today and showers are forecast for tomorrow.
Tyler Texas May 21 five persons were killed and a sixth critically injured when a truck crashed into a narrow bridge and rolled down a 30 foot embankment authorities said the accident occurred in the afternoon on a rural road near Tyler.

Names given include William and wife Maske, Charles and wife Alexander, and John and wife Causlin. Alexander survived to give details of the tragedy. Nearby, Bernadine Franz of Napoleon died in a separate crash and Marshal Kramer was injured. An unidentified man died crossing Ghent Road near Akron and E Lorenz with five boys were hurt in Michigan.
Washington crew reports rescue of Miss Josephine Peters in the Ohio River after she leaped from the dancing deck. A man she danced with dived in and kept her afloat until helpers reached them. She revived after being brought back aboard.
U P reports in Washington that Ohio failed in a supreme court challenge to bar the federal government from collecting internal revenue liquor tax on alcoholic beverages sold through state owned dispensaries.
A display of work from 800 junior and senior high students will be shown at Ath ens High School gymnasium tonight. Departments present chemis try, architecture, maps, notebooks, and numerous projects across subjects. Highlights include Byrd camp models, Little Women and Last of the Mohicans camps, Latin emphasis, geometry, art, printing posters, textiles, and biology plant displays.
Washington report says the Council of the League of Nations invited the United States to join a broad move to halt arms and munitions sales to Paraguay and Bolivia. The invitation followed a pending Senate resolution authorizing President Roosevelt to curb arms exports to the two belligerents. Similar notices went to 14 other arms producing nations.
In Red House near Charleston West Virginia the federal Emergency Relief Administration begins a homestead community for 150 families. Twenty engineers lay out 150 five acre tracts with a canning factory roads a community center and utilities. Each family receives two pigs and a cow plus barns and pasture as part of the self supporting rural rehabilitation plan.
The National Coal Association protested a proposed 50 million dollar appropriation to accelerate hydro electric development in the Tennessee Valley. It argued the project would cut jobs for bituminous miners and claimed power capacity already exceeds demand in an area rich in coal and capable of cheap steam power.

A major Chicago fire at the stockyards caused about 10 million dollars in damage and left 62 year old Ike Means dead from the ruins. Officials estimate over a thousand burn injuries with four hundred hospitalizations as repairs begin and industry resumes with emergency plans.

Dr. D. W. Johnston Jr, Wayne County medical examiner, was shot and killed early today by a special deputy sheriff in Macomb County. The deputy, Matthew Berger, claimed he fired accidentally while Johnston sat in an automobile with a young woman near Twelve Mile and Schoenherr Roads.
Beards and plain clothing marked the Dunkards gathering at the Brubaker Farm near Eaton Ohio as about 10 000 delegates attended the national convention. Men wore long beards and black hats while women wore flowing dresses. The event drew attendees from the Dunkard faith across the region.
