Two Area Men Killed in Viet Nam Action
Two area men died in Viet Nam action on Wednesday. Lance Corporal Michael Merriman 21 of Millfield and Sergeant Jimmy G Stewart 23 of Middleport were the second casualties in their counties Athens and Meigs. Merriman fatally injured by a mine near Da Nang while on patrol and Stewart killed by small arms fire near An Khe. Merriman joined the Marines in May 1965 and was a Chauncey-Dover High School graduate active in student government and sports. Stewart attended Middleport schools and was with Company B 2nd Battalion Airmobile Division, scheduled to return home in September. He leaves a wife and two sons. Funeral arrangements for Merriman are pending with Jagers and Sons Funeral Home Athens.

The Ohio Board of Regents and State Controlling Board approved bids for a $5.25 million library at Ohio University. Demolition of the Women's Gym and Boyd Hall began at Park Place to prepare the site.
