Escapee From Lucasville Prison Killed in Ohio Shootout

Three inmates escaped from Southern Ohio Correctional Facility as guards protested a new state bargaining policy. Edward Nesbitt, 22, was shot and killed by sheriff deputies near Ohio 23 about four miles from the prison. Michael Patterson, 27, was wounded after being captured near the escape route, and Ronald Carter, 26, remained at large.

Rescue Casualty List Increases In Mayaguez Mission

Washington AP reported higher Mayaguez rescue casualties than first released with five killed 16 missing and 70 to 80 wounded. Defense Secretary Schlesinger said the toll rose from initial Pentagon figures and explained delays due to casualty assessment after the Koh Tang operation near Cambodia.

Rhodes joins Kent State civil trial in Cleveland

Ten Die in Ohio Mishaps Over Weekend

Plane crash near Portsmouth kills two, injures three

In the early morning crash near Greater Portsmouth Airport two people died and three were injured. Doris Schmehl, 27, of Spartanburg South Carolina, is identified as one victim. a second victim, a child, remains unnamed. Survivors include Dr. Malcolm Schmehl of Spartanburg in critical condition and Ronald M. Schmehl, with another unidentified child. Injured were taken to University Hospital in Columbus.
