A new Camp Algonac setup features a 40 foot wide main street and converging 20 foot streets. It houses 1,500 people in 500 tents, each with cots stools wash bowl and tarpaulin. The island is fenced and patrolled by deputy sheriffs with separate washrooms and strict no alcohol policy.
An advertisement promotes Camp Algonac on Russell's Island Michigan as a affordable all inclusive vacation spot for 1909. It highlights a 187 acre site with a 43 acre central grove, tent city facilities, water works, baths, and transport by rail to Detroit and a White Star Line voyage through Lake St. Clair.
