A division of more than 600 airplanes gathered at Dayton for a sharp battle maneuver. The Army displays a vast air force, with maneuvers to climax next week at Chicasa and the Eastern Sea fronts as nearly every service ship participates.

The National Liberal League based in Dayton filed a petition with Secretary Brown proposing a constitutional amendment to legalize liquor manufacture sale and transportation in Ohio. The measure repeats all existing prohibition laws and was signed by twenty Dayton citizens. A delegate presented the petition to Attorney General Bettman for approval of the form and synopsis as required by law.
In Columbus on May 26 the Logan Foundry and Machine Co of Logan was sued for 11300 in Federal Court by A. Jones receiver for the First Rempel National Bank of Logan. Jones also sued Buckeye Supply Co of Logan for 1500 on a promissory note.
The U S Weather Bureau reports next week in the Ohio Valley and Tennessee will see a cooler spell Sunday night, warmer Tuesday, cooler again by Thursday, and warmer again Friday or Saturday. A Tuesday or Wednesday reading will return at week’s end, with generally fall conditions otherwise.

Warrants were served on six residents including one woman for conspiring in last November's state and congressional election fraud in Cincinnati. The sealed indictment named Mrs. Scott Dixon a Republican election judge and five others: J. Murphy a Democrat judge, Walter D. Burns a Democrat judge, Carl Jones a Republican election clerk, with two more election clerks identified.

Seven youths were trapped for about 10 hours after a slate fall blocked the mine entrance. NEWATE May 16 A wire cracked hose and two Jewel headed pilots were praised for saving 37 passengers when a wing caught fire aboard an eastern air transport plane en route from Richmond to New York. Miss Elizabeth Westwood alerted the pilot and reassured passengers while the crew fought the blaze, guiding the Curtiss Condor to a field near Edgewood where firemen quelled the flames.
May 30 in Harlan Kentucky a raid on Evarta Local United Mine Workers headquarters and an adjacent house yielded evidence of I W W activity. Sheriff John Blair stated the raid confirmed recent indications that extreme left wing labor agitators were behind the widespread but brief coal mine walkouts in Harlan County.

MONROE VILLE N J May 16 In the home of his father Jonuty Miller a merchant and banker is alleged to have kidnapped Paul B Kramme Jr son of the vice president of the Homer Treat Company in an effort to obtain 1000 ransom to recailp his finances The elder Kramme was shot in the left arm by Miller when he tried to follow Miller was trapped in a woods by residents and police He then shot himself in the head He was taken to a hospital where doctors said if he lived he would be found The police have filed charges of kidnapping assault and battery with intent to kill carrying a deadly weapon and larceny of a sister automobile against him Miller recently completed large contracts and owned equipment valued at 150000
A. A. Masser, a Pomeroy merchant and guardian, filed in Meigs County Common Pleas Court a $25,000 damages suit for Vivian Withee, eight, alleging David Ridge Jr of Jackson caused a December 6, 1928, collision on State Route 124 near Cook's Gap that left her partly paralyzed on the left side. Ridge paid hospital charges at the time.
At Steubenville Ohio on May 16 a gun battle on a high plateau near the East Steubenville ferry ended with Richard Thomas of Steubenville surrendering to six city patrolmen while Chester Whitlow escaped after firing at officers and dodging machine gun fire across the hill.

Batavia Ohio May 16 Huelsman a former major league player who appeared in Nicaragua two months ago was shot and killed during an auto ride with a married woman. Her husband waited and fired hitting Huelsman in the head. The shooter Herbert White, who had recently left a Louisville hospital, surrendered and was jailed.
