Daleton Mines Strike Over Mule Dispute Ends in Standstill

A labor conflict at the Daleton Coal Company pits Mine No 1 and No 2 against management over a mule swap and driver position. David Johnsen claims his mule was taken and given to another driver, leading to his quitting in protest. Bailey, the mine boss, says no discharge occurred and miners threaten to strike until Johnson is reinstated and his mule returned. A miners’ mass meeting urged solidarity while officials warned idleness could force a halt of operations. The two-mine operation, with about 100 tons daily capacity, remains suspended as talks continue.
