Warships Head to Koh Tang for Marine Evacuations

Pentagon says Marines who took part in the Koh Tang assault to recover a U S merchant ship and crew were evacuated to a Gulf of Thailand carrier. Two carriers and several warships moved toward Koh Tang as 150 to 200 Marines remained on the beach awaiting evacuation. Casualty figures vary with later reports citing one to two dead and eight wounded as of the briefing.
