N Congress Rezoning Plan Rejected by City Planning Commission
The city planning commission rejected a proposal to rezone the east side of N Congress Street from W Washington to W State Street. Four members voted against, with Chairman W H Herbert noting the plan would require more support from area property owners. The commission will forward its recommendation to the city council and set a May 27 hearing to consider downtown parking restriction changes. Mayor Raymond Shepard opposed the rezoning, while General Telephone supports expansion but not via a citizen-led change.
