Couple Injured In Near Head-On Crash On Rock Riffle Road
Mr and Mrs Frank Seamans both from Athens Route 4 were taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital after a near head-on collision on Rock Riffle Road. Mrs Seamans a psychologist at Athens State Hospital and Mr Seamans a lab technician, were treated for injuries including head injuries and loss of right thumb. The other driver Clyde Williams 67 was uninjured. his pickup suffered $400 damage while the Seamans car damage reached $1000. Deputies estimate the collision occurred on a curve about two and a half miles east of Athens and no citations were issued.

Fairfield Mishap Injures Area Women
Two Athens County women and a Lancaster man were injured in a two car crash on Route 33 three miles south of Lancaster. Mrs Rosemary Gallaway 40 and Mrs Phyllis Jackson 43 admitted to Lancaster Fair field Hospital along with Ray A Woltz 44 of Lancaster. Gallaway driving south attempted to pass and skidded on wet pavement striking Woltz northbound. Gallaway suffered chest injuries leg and knee lacerations Jackson had a severe cut on the forehead and facial abrasions Woltz had chest injuries and a lower lip laceration. Patrol says accident under investigation as Gallaway could not be questioned. Athens Messenger May 13 1960.

Dr. Eleanora L Schmidt, director of Ohio University’s Hudson Health Center, will retire June 30 after 31 years in student health service. Her successor is unnamed. She and her husband plan to move to Arizona. She began at OU in 1947 after 18 years at the University of Oklahoma.

Patrolman To Command Findlay Post
Cpl J A Kirkendall of the Athens post will leave Saturday to take command of the Findlay post. Promoted to corporal last month, he has served with the patrol since September 1949 and was at the local post from December 1957 as second in command. A Springfield native, he lives with his wife and two children on Blackburn Hill Athens Route 5.

Watershed Plans Approved by Athens County Board
Athens County commissioners approved a unanimous resolution backing the Margaret's Creek Watershed plan at a postponed meeting. They will meet next Friday May 20 with State Dept of Natural Resources officials to review tentative watershed plans and then tour proposed routes for a new limited access bypass on Route 530 from Coolville to Torch with County Engineer Dowler and Division 10 engineer Max Morley.
