Memorial of Shaw Minear a notable Athens county figure

The obituary recounts the life of Shaw Minear later known as Shaw Minear of Coolville Ohio. Born in Virginia in 1800s, he migrated with family to Iowa then settled in Athens County. He served in the 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and earned public offices including county treasurer auditor and trustee of a children's home. He married Jammy Warren and left a family including widow Minnie L and two sons. He died after a Civil War wound and an accident related death.

At May 8 1886 meeting Paramathia Lodge No 25 expresses sorrow over the untimely death of brother Alexander Watson Shaw Minear and offers condolences to widow Fanny Minnie L and Rosa the children. The resolutions praise his upright Masonry public service kindness and character and request newspaper publication and thirty days of lodge mourning with copies to family and archives.
