The Gallipolis City Board of Health inspected the new sewage disposal plant guided by John Souders. The plant handles 340000 gallons daily now and aims for one million on completion, with two shifts, a 15 hour day, and automatic operation during off hours.
Francis W. Newman of the State Highway Patrol administered driving tests to 29 applicants on Tuesday and Wednesday in Gallipolis. He reports 21 pass, with year totals 483 tested, 306 passing and 177 failing.
Dr. Howard G. Young of First Baptist Church Gallipolis will deliver the baccalaureate sermon at 2 p m Sunday for about 45 North Gallia High School graduates. The Rev John Daniel Davis of Vinton gives the invocation and benediction. The girls glee club offers two selections This Is My Father's World and Father Hear My Prayer. Anna George and Judy Brown perform a cornet duet Holy City. Mrs Maurita Miller plays the processional Holy Holy Holy and recessional God of Our Fathers.
J Sherman Porter deputy grand chancellor of District 17 inspected Wilkesville Knights of Pythias Lodge 593 on a Wednesday night. Gene Swann chancellor commander and 16 members attended as Raymond Mills past grand chancellor of Ohio and Thomas Mills grand master at arms spoke. Others from Gallipolis included John Kincaid Fredy Burdette and Frank Quickle.
Gallia Academy High School Key Club members were sold at a Kiwanis auction raising 155 dollars to fund their trip to the International Key Club Convention in Boston. Fourteen students agreed to work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the price is paid. Guests included Vic Sherow of the Athens Kiwanis Club and others from Kyger Creek, Rio Grande, and Gallia Academy groups. Tokay is a Hungarian wine grape origin town.
A joint Meigs Gallia County meeting at Kyger Creek High School urged assigned extension staff to aid resource development. Leaders named critical needs including planning zoning agriculture highways education labor minerals, and facilities for the aged and parks.
Five of sixteen applicants at the Gallia County chest clinic were referred for X rays. Dr. Francis W. Shane, the county health commissioner, and health department staff conducted the session.
Dr. John Mitchell, extension rural sociologist of Ohio State University, attended the meeting along with 11 tourist attractions and convention sites and other participants.
