Lessons in Bridge Playing West Wins and Ruffs

A bridge lesson explains how a west hand wins and the defender must return spades or hearts. The declarer ruffs in dummy and discards a club, with options for ruff and stuff or a free finesse to secure the remaining tricks. Any return by either opponent leads declarer to capture the rest of the cards.

Bidding decision in Goethes style bridge problem

The South player faces a doubleton hand with AQ63 in spades and 12 points. After North's 2 Clubs pass and 2 Diamonds by South, a three spades jump is a strong force. If West opens spades, South can force by trumps and clubs to avoid losing a heart. Pursues a line drawing trumps, ruffing, and then cashing clubs to set up safe play.
