Sergeant Frank Lanckton, Pershing’s longtime orderly and aide to Secretary Baker, sailed for France after a stint with Baker in America. The Cleveland native traveled with Pershing in the Philippines, the East, and Europe, and says Paris is more cheerful about the war’s outcome than Washington.
