Lobotomy Results Reported by Freeman to Medical Society
Dr Walter Freeman outlined outcomes of transorbital lobotomies before the Athens County Medical Society noting 29 operations at Athens State Hospital yesterday. About 61 percent of the 200 patients Freeman has treated across six visits have been released home, with many returning to productive work such as music, psychiatry, fundraising, and editing. Freeman said personality changes are usually for the better and shock therapy remains useful in some cases. He emphasized results depend on length of confinement and early treatment. Freeman is a former George Washington University professor now living in California.
