State violators cited as drift in Hocking brine pollution
Ohio officials from the Division of Mines the Water Pollution Control Board and the State Health Department inspected salt brine pollution in Hocking County. They found improvements but many violations including broken seepage dikes excess crude around well heads and brine being trenched or siphoned into streams. Stream tests ranged from 1200 to 3350 parts per million. Drains in dikes that let brine escape were found elsewhere. A detailed study is planned Monday to require violators to obtain permits and dispose of brines under board supervision.
