A dramatic image shows the Hindenburg shortly before it exploded at Lakehurst New Jersey. The blast rips the rear of the airship as debris shoots upward and flames engulf the fragile cover while houses loom in the background.
Ruth Baumgardner a 21 year old brown haired senior at Ohio Wesleyan University has been missing since Tuesday night. Her parents asked authorities to broaden the search to nearby cities as police investigate a report that she was seen with a former university student with whom she had dated.
The Senate today confirmed the nominations of seven members to the new Bituminous Coal Commission. The appointees are C. S. Hosford of Pennsylvania, C. E. Smith of West Virginia, Percy Tetlow of Ohio, John C. Lewis of Iowa, Thomas S. Raymond of Kentucky, Pleas Greenlee of Indiana, and Walter H. Maloney of Missouri.
Air Minister Pierre Cot announced the Lindbergh Anniversary Race with 22 entries from New York to Paris will proceed in August as scheduled, despite American objections.
The Senate confirmed President Roosevelt's nomination of Harry H. Woodring of Kansas to be Secretary of War, solidifying the new administration's military leadership.
Works Progress Administrator Harry L. Hopkins warned that a proposed $500 million reduction in the WPA relief budget would wreck the program. He said a $1 billion appropriation would cut average employment by more than half to under 1,000,000, with 2,159,798 on WPA rolls as of May 1.

The state parole board released 50 inmates from London Prison Farm in Columbus. Sixty cases were continued. Paroled individuals include Morgan Dave Burton on automobile stealing with parole set for Sept. 20, 1937 and Hocking Eli Lanning on a statutory charge with parole set for Aug. 20, 1937.
The Ohio River Railway and Power Co. won state approval to discontinue its interurban line from Pomery to Racine, ending service on the route.
London reports quotes Dr. Hugo Eckener saying sabotage is very likely the cause of the Hindenburg wreck. Webb Miller recalls a prior anonymous warning not to fly to the United States. Berlin officials vow to press on with new airship programs as eyewitnesses recount the fiery fall at Lakehurst and the deaths of passengers and crew.
Army engineers told the House Flood Control Committee that 45 new flood control reservoirs on Ohio River tributaries and 155 flood walls and levees costing about 440 million dollars would prevent repeat disasters. Proposed sites include Beaver two, Little Kanawha four, Hocking one, Big Sandy three, Scioto five, Little Miami two, Licking one, Miami two, Kentucky three, Salt one, Green seven, Wabash eight, and Cumberland six.

At Lakehurst New Jersey the 800 foot dirigible Hindenburg burst into flames as it prepared to land. Officials note hydrogen likely ignited by an electrical spark from static or a diesel engine. 32 known dead or missing and 66 survivors among 26 passengers and crew.
Berlin report says the aged Graf Zeppelin is speeding toward Germany in safety after crossing the South Atlantic. A radio message declared All well as its giant sister ship Hindenburg lay charred at Lakehurst.
Basque children from Bilbao arrive in France aboard the Habana seeking safe havens and new families. They are homesick frightened and hungry after fleeing war. Local hosts welcome them as part of relief efforts.
Mrs. F. E. Kimes aged 57 died at noon at the family home 78 W State St after a two year illness including bronchitis last week.
