A royal interview reveals a poor but devoted daughter who refuses a noble match to care for her ailing mother. Impressed by her virtue, King Gustavus gives the mother a lifelong pension and a pensionary reversion to the daughter upon the mother’s death, while she remains at her cabin with her mother.
