The Supreme Court upholds parts of the Retirement Act affecting interstate carriers and those delivering the mail. The ruling clarifies which sections apply to all eligible carriers and the separation of invalid features within the act.
Robert A. Edwards, central figure in a real life tragedy, shared a tragic fate with a Dreiser hero. Edwards was convicted in the death of Freda McKechnie and refused committal led to his execution in the electric chair at Rockview Penitentiary in Pennsylvania.
Robert Allen Edwards, 22, known as the American Tragedy killer, walked to the electric chair unassisted and died at 12:31 a.m. He had slain Freda McKechnie, the church worker who mentioned a pregnancy. Edwards displayed no evident emotion, prayed the Bible in his last hours, and bid farewell to his father before execution at Rockview.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon for George W. Perry secretary and assistant general counsel of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. He died from pneumonia yesterday. Born in 1892 in Georgia he was a graduate of Warren High School Ohio Wesleyan University and Western Reserve Law School. He is survived by his mother Mrs Mary Perry a brother Warren M. Perry of Youngstown his widow and three children.
Mrs. Margaret Thomas Crane becomes the first Middletown woman to receive a Kentucky Colonel commission granted by Governor Ruby Latfoon. The honor recognizes her services and leadership in the community.
The magazine reports that the nation's steel industry earned 13.14 million dollars in 1934 after charges but before dividends and bond interest. Twenty three leading companies netted 12.73 million, a 38 percent return on invested capital, reversing losses of 9 percent in 1933 and 2.85 percent in 1932. After bond interest, the 23 producers still showed a net loss of 16.94 million, much improved from 64.71 million in 1933.
Republican leaders from nine Midwest states set June 10 and 11 for a Springfield Illinois conference to organize an Aroused America against the Roosevelt New Deal. They urge ending the low mood, preserving institutions, and aiding the GOP and national committee with a constructive, national program. They charge Roosevelt with failed policies and vast spending, promising an inventory of the country’s affairs and a proposed program.
The Rev Dr A Y Wilcox, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens for two decades, will resign next September. He noted the 20 year tenure began in 1915 after earlier pastorates and requested a fuller notice later.

In Bryson Texas a posse surrounded two robbers at the First State Bank early Monday. The dead man was shot three times and died en route to a Jacksboro undertaker. The wounded robber, about 35, was taken to a Graham hospital. Both wore business attire over overalls and fired on officers as they fled.
The Common Pleas Court heard the city’s bid to move 2500 from the waterworks fund to an electric survey fund. Testimony showed waterworks surplus and PWA grant receivable, with arguments over jurisdiction and necessity. City clerk and waterworks officials factual filings were presented as the hearing continued at noon.
ATHENS Former Premier Eleutherios Venizelos, exiled leader of the failed Greek revolt, was sentenced to death by a court martial for his role in the uprising. Generals Pistiras, who commanded rebel troops, also received the death penalty. Both fled the country after the coup attempt and Venizelos lives in exile with his wife and son in Paris.
Monroe Michigan The New ton Steel Co plant stayed shut Monday after a strike settlement last week as cancellations left orders absent. Officials said business should return within a few days and operations resume soon.
King George VI led a 25th anniversary celebration with a procession from Buckingham Palace to St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Thousands lined the route as a communist banner incident sparked a scuffle and was torn apart by the crowd. The pageantry featured the royal family, diplomatic guests, and war veterans amid a disciplined royal ceremony.

Freda Blosser eighteen Logan was killed and five others injured in a Saturday night automobile accident on Route 31 near Route 18. Six injured were taken to Cherrington Hospital where Blosser died two hours later.

U S Labor Secretary Edward F McGrady announced the poll to decide on a five percent wage increase, readjustment of out of balance rates up to ten percent, seniority rules enforcement, and equal treatment for executive shop committee members.
Cincinnati leaders push to secure part of a 4.0 billion federal works relief fund for sewage elimination along the Ohio River. The city charter committee, led by John J. Emery, plans to organize Ohio Indiana Kentucky West Virginia Pennsylvania and Illinois to gain federal cooperation.
Caril Hamilton was recovering after a severe beating by three men as he left the Columbus Packing Company. The attack occurred near the plant and police were investigating possible suspects and motives.
A TWA transport crashed near Atlanta Missouri in fog while en route from Albuquerque to Kansas City. Sen or Bronson M Cutting of New Mexico and eight others died or were injured. six crewmembers and a motion picture unit were en route to Annapolis to shoot a film.
Mrs. Herbert Douglas aged 55 died Monday at her home near Holiday Meigs County. Survived by husband and seven children. Funeral at Burlingham Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment Burlingham Cemetery.
