An alleged letter attributed to James Long claims responsibility for a murder and threatens to implicate Hickman. The note suggests actions taken by the writer to end his own life and may affect Hickman’s case if authentic.
In Chillicothe on May 6 U P reports a handwriting expert says a note claiming James E. Long wrote it matches his known signature. The note, tied to the death of Huntington death by own action victim, is used to support John Hickman’s bid to avoid execution. Attorney Lewis N. Day brought the note from Huntington and will present it to the Ohio court of appeals along with other evidence.
In Los Angeles on May 6, lawyers for Charlie Chaplin and Mrs Chaplin argued over settlements. Lloyd Wright said Mrs Chaplin sought 1 250 000 while Chaplin claimed less. Lyndon Young released telegrams showing an offer of 650 000 plus 2 percent of The Circus receipts and a children's trust fund.

Jules Berman a 37 year old messenger for Taylor Bates and company brokers reported his kidnapping in Manhattan yesterday after two bandits stole 100000 dollars worth of negotiable certificates from him. He was dumped from a car bound and gagged but not mistreated and said his captors gave him coffee and cake before release. He lives in the Bronx with his wife and two children and earns sixty cents an hour part time.
French aviator Capt. Saint Roman and two companions vanished during a trans Atlantic attempt from Pernambuco Brazil. The missing big plane lacked pontoons and likely sank if forced to land at sea.
A May grand jury indicted 29 individuals with the Bolton case anticipated for review. Four county officers face manslaughter charges not included in the current indictments.
