Church Leader Admits Giving NAACP $10,000

In Chicago the moderator of the Presbyterian Church U S A confirmed a Ku Klux Klan statement that the church gave 10 000 dollars to the NAACP to settle a damage suit. Aty Shepherd K Nash of Sumter sought 120 000 dollars in libel damages over a school integration statement. Nash offered to return the funds if the NAACP provided donor names and dropped the Sumter suit for 10 years. He set a May 20 deadline and threatened to donate the money to Shriner's Hospital or Sumter First Presbyterian Church if conditions failed.
