The second hand on your watch completes its third circuit and calamity lands in Paris.
May 1 report from the British Armies in Flanders describes babies found near Neuve Eglise and in a hayloft during shelling. Both infants survived in hospitals after minutes of peril, cared for by nurses and rescued by soldiers.
Attorney General McGhee announced he will seek the surrender of the Cincinnati branch of the German American Alliance chartered in 1894. Refusal would lead to court action to compel charter revocation after an Ohio investigation. Liberty Loan subscriptions rose by almost 25000 in Athens county, bringing the total to 76550 short of the quota before Saturday night. Campaigns, meetings, and urging sub pay ins are under way with Boy Scouts leading efforts. Subscriptions via the Scouts exceed 35000. Troop One and Two report over 16000 each, Troop Three over 4000, and one Scout remaining unsettled.
Mahlon Bradshaw of Beaumont appeared before Mayor Woodworth this morning to answer an affidavit signed by his wife charging him with assault and battery. He pleaded not guilty and his trial was set for Saturday afternoon at one o clock.
Washington May 2 General Crowder ordered a nationwide round up of draft registrants who escaped military service by unfair classifications. The War Department will reclassify and send any such registrants who have dodged service to camp.
Copenhagen reports 11000 German prisoners taken in Helsingfors and 5000 more in Viborg, where the Red Guard Premier is mentioned. Viborg endured eleven hours of bombardment and near total destruction as Finnish leaders debate monarchy restoration versus continued republic with the Young Finns pressing for the republic.
