A severe tornado swept through Texas and Louisiana causing injuries and damage. Reports indicate families displaced and widespread destruction across rural areas, with eastern Mississippi also affected by the storm system.
Hundreds of Athens County residents pressed commissioners to restore the 1500 dollar county extension agent appropriation. The board refused to reconsider after petitions signed by 2068 people and a rally by local organizations. A public hearing was proposed to allow all sides to be heard.
