A wind swept blaze destroyed a one story nursing home in Largo Florida killing 32 elderly patients and a nurse. Three agencies including the state fire marshal and the Sheriff’s Office opened investigations. Owners Mr and Mrs W L Littlefield evacuated many but the flames proved fatal. One welfare director Gus Smith died in a separate car crash while transporting patients. Fire officials believe the fire started near the kitchen area.
