Secretary of War Stimson urged using National Service as the manpower fix while allowing induction of 4-F men only as a last resort. He insisted Congress should enact new legislation and not force the Army to draft physically unfit men into war labor battalions.
Allied air commandos struck Mohnyin Burma to isolate Myitkyina base. The operation involved glider borne troops reported as pressing the Japanese stronghold as Lt. Gen. Stilwell’s forces advance with American and Chinese units under Mountbatten.

Arabs outnumber Jews two to one and immigration terms end after March 31 1944 with Arab consent required for any further intake. The Zarief family welcomed quadruplets born prematurely at Sloane Hospital for Women in New York City. Edgar Butler, city license inspector, reported.

New York report says Right Wing leaders split from the American Labor Party after losing control to a Left Wing CIO coalition. They declare the party now Communist dominated and call the experiment in independent labor political action a failure.
Wade Lisbon reports in London that grandmothers and young girls are being recruited to support German war production as Nazi manpower strains grow. Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden says Britain and the United States are considering further actions to save Balkan Jews from German terror and will punish Hitler’s satellites responsible for extermination policies.
