CHICAGO A life sentence for John P. Chase for the killing of Inspector Samuel P. Louis Screba of Jacksonville pleaded not guilty and was bound over to the grand jury under $200 bond after his arrest by Marshal Francis Barrett. Two miners died in separate district accidents Monday. Louis Sauer aged 50 from Trimble, lead er at Mine No. 255 Drydock, died 2% minutes after being trapped by a soapstone fall while being carried from the mine. William Hoover aged 42 from Kerr's Run Pomeroy was killed instantly when slate collapsed on him. Sauer leaves a wife and two step-children with tentative funeral plans at Holy Cross Church Glouster. Hoover leaves a wife two sons and a daughter with burial planned at Ewington.
Joseph G. Cox age 50 a title examiner in the Ohio Department of Agriculture in 1924 died Tuesday in Louisville Kentucky He was an attorney for the Federal Farm Loan Land Bank of Liuteville His home was at Londonderry Colorado and he belonged to the Chillicothe law firm of Stephens and Cox.

George Kempton of Jacksonville pleaded guilty to failing to provide for a pregnant wife and received probation plus a $5 monthly support order until birth.
Cleveland mourns Orrin A. Marvin 89 the sole Civil War veteran marching in last year’s Memorial Day parade. He died Monday after a long life of service and remembrance.
In Athens County Court Judge O F Rowland ruled Monday that Don Jeffers of Shade was contributorily negligent after being struck by Foster Pierce’s car on Route 31 September 17 1923. Jeffers failed to keep watch and was ordered to pay court costs.
The AP reports a storm system bringing snow dust rain and tornadoes across Kentucky West Virginia North Carolina Illinois and other states. Tornadoes damaged Metropolis Illinois and caused evacuations along Tug River West Virginia as floods threaten Eastern Kentucky with many homeless and wrecked structures.
Officers investigating the Beasley Auto Mobile robbery said Harmon Caben an Athens youth who died Monday was not involved. Fingerprints on the safe did not match Caben. He was reported to have been with an uncle in Athens and on a Pleasanton farm followed by unclear clues and no arrests.
Governor Davey said he asked Edmund G Mathews to resign as chief of the state liquor enforcement division amid persistent rumors that some agents were conducting shakedowns on liquor permit renewals and revocations. Reports allege agents would threaten license revocation for a technical violation, then an accomplice would offer to “fix” the matter for a fee.
