Allied air forces resumed a major assault on Berlin with B-24 Liberators and Flying Fortresses striking German industrial and military targets in the Berlin district. The U S Eighth Air Force announced heavy bomber activity supported by P 47 Thunderbolts P 38 Lightnings and P 51 Mustangs in the mission.
London reports Berlin radio declares Rome will be declared an open city with all military installations removed and traffic diverted. Aviation cadet Walter Fults aged 20 formerly of Ohio University was killed when a training plane crashed near Aloe Army Air Field Victoria Texas. He attended Ohio University 1941 42 and belonged to Phi Delta Theta. He had completed pre training and was to receive his wings in three weeks. His father served as an observer in the Air Corps during World War I.
Washington reports Eric Johnston president of the United States Chamber of Commerce accepted an invitation from the Soviet government for a visit. He indicated he would fly to Russia in May and said Americans must see how others live to understand capitalism and democracy.
