Four Athens County officials met at Columbus to verify the quarterly automobile expense for Sheriff Charlies W. Stratton. The report details trips, mileage, and officers per car with only minor corrections. Pe ckinaugh noted eight cents a mile is below the average, while ten cents would be fair.

Washington news reports Donald R Richberg was named head of the NRA as the agency expands its board from five to seven. The new board includes two labor leaders, two industrialists, and two professors with Richberg joined by Philip Murray of the United Mine Workers and William P. Withrow of Pittsburgh steel. John J. Lewis of the Mine Workers had accused Richberg of selling labor down the river before the Senate committee.
Coroner James Walt ruled Virginia Smith age 17 of Pleasantville High committed suicide by poison after a quarrel with Victor Zeller 18 also a high school student. Zeller had hosted dinner Thursday night and denied other attentions during the dispute.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p m in Carthage Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev Henry Snyder with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Lovell J Rhodes, 71, died Thursday night at his Forest Run home. Funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m. at Forest Run M E Church, Rev. Frank Beuscher officiating, burial Pine Grove Cemetery. He is survived by wife, two sons Ernest of Forest Run and A J Rhodes of Athens, a daughter Mrs Jacob Baer of Forest Run, and three sisters Mrs Thomas Roush Mrs Margaret Patterson and Mrs William Hughes of Athens.
