Fest season opens in Athens with 40 arrests and citations

A city news release notes the Athens street fest season began with 40 arrests or citations. Saturday Mill Street house parties ran from morning until about 4 30 pm. Athens police arrested one person on an alcohol charge while Ohio University police charged 18 people with 20 alcohol offenses and two others were jailed. The Ohio Investigative Unit issued 21 citations, mostly for alcohol, with one felony drug offense. Two individuals were taken to Ohio Health O'Bleness Hospital for alcohol-related symptoms. No calls were needed from the Athens Fire Department.
