Brush Fire Burns Out of Control in Middleport
A brush fire behind the John Frecker home on Grant Street in Middleport ran out of control Thursday evening. The Volunteer Fire Department extinguished it after being called at about 5:30 p.m. Fire Chief Parmalee urged fire permits before burning grass leaves or refuse within village limits. Permits are issued by Mayor Sidney Lee or Fire Chief Parmalee. He warned windy March days easily spark fires and smoke can irritate sinuses and throats while creating traffic hazards on highways due to reduced visibility.
