Johnston Plans Outdoor Ring Moves Amid Indoor Setbacks
New York promoter Jimmy Johnston says he will reveal bell ringing plans for the outdoor season after April 1. He notes Barney Ross will defend the lightweight title against Lou Ambers and Joe Louis has signed for three summer fights for a rival group, while Max Baer’s title fate remains tied to Schmeling and possible future champions. The statement follows Johnston's frustration with indoor season promos at Madison Square Garden.
